Florence Y. Ah Sing, 97, of Hilo died Nov. 27 at home. Born in Pepeekeo, she worked for the former Hilo Dry Goods and Robin’s and was a cook, baker and orchid tender. Visitation 4-6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Wake service at 6 p.m. Visitation again 8:30-9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. Committal service noon at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 Pavilion. Burial to follow. Survived by sons, Timothy (Leslee) Ah Sing, Leonard (Sandy) Ah Sing and Terrence (Pamela) Ah Sing; daughters, Laurie (Clifford) Akau and Christie Ah Sing; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Helen Mae Cooper, 97, of Keaau died Dec. 1 at home. Born in Mineola, N.Y., she was a retired engineer for Hughes Aircraft Co., U.S. Air Force veteran, tai chi instructor for seniors and member of New Hope Church-Hilo, Doll Collectors Club of East Hawaii and Teddy Bear Club. Services pending. Survived by nieces and nephews, Laura Cooper and Frances Scarpinato of Keaau, James Huntley of Orchidland, Susan Addis of Missouri, Julia (Jeremy) Newby Ramey of Neodesha, Kan., Barbara J. Gary Lee Delos Santos Sr., 76, of Naalehu, died Nov. 27 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Ka‘u, he was a retired custodian for Naalehu Elementary School and U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran. Celebration of life will be held at a later date. Survived by sons, Gary “Gary Boy” (Christine Haalilio) Delos Santos Jr. and Michael “Mikey” (Kalei Martinez) Delos Santos; hanai daughters, Bobbi-Jo (Jurgen) Meier, Roilynn (Jacob) Kamp, Chrisandra (Jamie) Javar, Meiling (Lyle) Matthews and Zara (Sam) Akeo; hanai son, Jonathan (Desiree Galanto) James; sisters, Pearl “Nani” Mokuhali‘i and Brenda (Ren) Walker; sister-in-law, Annie Delos Santos; nine grandchildren and a great-grandson; hanai grandchildren and great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Erlinda “Linda” Andres Maballo, 76, of Keaau died Oct. 29. Born in Cabatuan, Isabela, Philippines, she was a retired entrepreneur in the flower industry and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 16) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Prayer service at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Alae Cemetery. Casual attire. Ruby Yoshie Nakashima Matsumoto, 91, of Kalaheo, Kauai, formerly of Hilo, died Oct. 6 in Lihue, Kauai. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired library technician at the University of Hawaii at Hilo and member of Puna Hongwanji Mission. Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by daughters, Charlene Navarro of Kalaheo, Kauai, and Carrie (Todd) Oishi of Hilo; brothers, Brian Nakashima of Kailua, Oahu, Edwin (Sharon) Nakashima of Vinyard, Utah, and Walter (Gloria) Nakashima of Torrance, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Mary Nakashima of Pearl City, Oahu, Thelma Nakashima of Honolulu and Violet Nakashima of Torrance, Calif.; three grandsons and two great-grandsons; nieces and nephews.
